Chartered Structural Engineer, Director

Ross Dobson MEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE

Ross studied Civil Engineering at Northumbria University in Newcastle, UK. During his studies, he carried out a placement with Mott MacDonald in the transport sector, and also took part in several national competitions in concrete and timber design, finishing second nationally with his team for design of a timber car park. He graduated with a 1st class honours degree, also being awarded best student in Civil Engineering, and best student thesis.

During his studies in 2018, he also began working at a small engineering consultancy in the North East, in the structures department. He quickly developed from student engineer, to graduate, to engineer and then achieved chartership in 2022, which promoted him to a Chartered Structural Engineer at the young age of 26. During this time, he also volunteered as the Chair for the Institute of Structural Engineers Northern Counties Young Members Group.

He has experience in projects ranging from structural art to high-rise office and apartment blocks, with values over £10 million.

Since launching his own consultancy in January 2023, he has worked with architects, builders and home owners on extension projects and larger new build developments, as well as surveys to historic buildings.

Katy Dobson BA (Hons)

Katy trained as a Primary School teacher, graduating from the University of Sunderland in 2016 with a first class honours. After teaching in an 'Outstanding' school for 3 years, she decided to take her organisational and management skills to Supply Chain Management, working with a large automotive manufacturer in the North East.

There, she took responsibility for various regions within Europe, beginning with a region of Spain, to the entire Spanish operations and finishing with Central and Eastern Europe - spreading from Germany to Bulgaria.

Her responsibilities included tracking KPIs, reporting and analysis financial and operational efficiency trends, and researching innovative improvement projects. With budgets of up to 20 million euros, she launched and supported contract renewals, working with colleagues and business partners across Europe.

Upon the launch of Dobson Structures in 2023, Katy developed the website, marketing materials, social media, business plan and financial forecast for the business, allowing set up in the UK and France. She continues to practice her French skills to expand within their new location, supports Ross with photography and floor plans during site visits, and is currently also developing her own business as an Agent Commercial with Leggett Immobilier.
